Solo en Costa Rica - A new concept at a new school

We met with the school principal for the Bocuare School which is very close to where we observed Sukhot this past October. This school is three times larger than the school in Duruy. So instead of teaching all the kids, we proposed to just teach the fifteen 5th and 6th graders. We also asked to just teach for a 40 minute period on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This would allow us to teach at both Duruy and Bocuare schools on the same days. It would also allow us to further hone our curriculum for work at the orphanage, when that door opens. The principal had to get permission for us to teach from the district office in Limon. This is the same office that will need to give us permission to work with the orphans, if the door opens for us to work with them at their public school, instead of at the private buildings we were going to teach at on the orphanage grounds. We will definitely be knocking on this door to see if God will open up this path.

Interestingly, when we asked about technology used in the Bocuare School, they didn't have any working computers available. However, they had over a dozen computers they had put in a work order to fix. A technician had traveled from San Jose (5 hour drive) to look at them. But he only looked at one computer. It had a problem for which he didn't have the part. So he left a note next to the computer saying that he would need to get the part and would return someday to fix it. The principal then said, "Solo en Costa Rica" (Only in Costa Rica) as her reason for how crazy this was. Even in Costa Rica, they realize that this is crazy and that no other country in the world would do things this way. Why not look all the computers and diagnose them all? Why not see if any of them could be fixed on the spot? Nope. When you can't fix the first computer, just leave a note and leave. Apparently this is all too common in Costa Rica. This is likely part of the reason why we can't get into the orphanage yet to teach.
